Pregnant in the Hutt...

Just had another pregnant client here. Oh, how I love to work with two people at the same time!!! It's such a privilege to be able to touch the future...

I like to work holistically, and that also means to refer clients. That's why I'm always on the lookout for the good stuff out there, which is sometimes really hard to find! For example an exercise programme specifically for mums-to-be. I spent ages googling, but there was not a lot to find in the Hutt...

As I have my own facebook page running again, I thought I could spend some of my energy in setting up one for all the mums-to-be here in the Hutt! A page created to help them find all the great stuff that is available just for them, here in the Hutt - from childbirth courses to maternity clothes, from photo shoots to exercise programmes... But also to help them find support, should they need it.

So check it out, here is my latest baby:      'Pregnant in the Hutt'

... because, like today, I can grab one of my textbooks ( you can never learn enough! ) and take it to the beach to read. So much better than sitting in the study!
Going down to the beach, watching the waves and the sea birds and getting the feet wet is almost as relaxing as a massage! Well, it definitely is a great way to finish one. That's why I like to recommend my clients to take advantage of my studio's location and go for a walk along the beach  - and maybe head for one of Eastbourne's lovely cafes...

exercise in Eastbourne...

Is exercise beneficial for your health?!? Well, I guess we all agree it is. I know that I need exercise to keep my body healthy and flexible. But what kind of exercise? Now we could start the discussion!!! But actually that's not my plan. Because everybody is different, and every body needs and prefers different exercise (just as it is with massage!): from a walk along the beach to an iron man.

Eastbourne is a great place for exercise! Plenty of outdoor opportunities, sport clubs and  exercise classes/groups! Do you know just how many exercise classes/groups we have in Eastbourne?!!
To be honest: I don't... ! I do know quite a few - but I am sure I don't know all of them. And there are probably more people out here who don't know the full range on offer! So I thought: why not use this blog to introduce the various exercise opportunities in Eastbourne, and to help you find what suits you best?! Like swissball, yoga, NIA, pilates, nordic walking, Feldenkrais, zumba...

What do you think? Would that be helpful or interesting for you?
I will need your help to find them all though! - so please leave your comment...

Today we had a very relaxing family day - start of the holidays!
While sitting in the living room playing rummikub, I looked out of the window: WOW!! What a masterpiece in the evening sky! All shades of blue, and clouds changing shape and colour by the minute.
I love living here...

Who loves to read or hear about your personal matters from people you don't even know? Not me...
That's why you won't read any names or good enough descriptions of people, unless I have asked them before. Like my daughter in yesterday's post...
And of cause the same applies to your massage session: whatever personal information  you tell me or experience in my massage studio, it stays in there! I won't tell your friend about your sore back, or anything else...
Well, there are things we like to have shared. So even if I don't tell your friend how good you felt after my massage - I DO like to hear that from people I don't even know....

massage your child...

Today was such a stunning day! After starting off with heavy rain, we had this awesome winter weather: sunny, warm, calm, and a breathtaking view of the south island - mountains covered in snow! I took a walk along the beach, and once again knew why I was here...
Before that I had a chat with someone about a lot of things - and about children massage. And we agreed about just how much kids love massage! How the most active child becomes quiet and the anxious one relaxes...

A lot of my daughters friends think, that she is lucky to have a  massage therapist as mum. Well, she might have  an advantage - but that doesn't mean that other mums can't do it! Often we think of massage as an hour set aside, a comfortable padded table, nice oils, relaxing music and professional strokes (and yes, that's what you should expect if you come to see me). But that's not how it has to be. Massage can be as simple as a good back rub, a squeeze of the shoulders, massaging the feet while watching TV and stroking the hair at bedtime...!
My daughter doesn't get on my massage table every day - but she gets at least one massage daily.
Because it's that simple...!

If you would like to learn some basic massage techniques, have a look at this book:
Healing touch for children: massage, acupressure and reflexology routine for children aged 4-12 by Mary Atkinson.  You can borrow it from the Hutt City Library  - they purchased it on my suggestion. And it is also available at Wellington City Libraries.
